Hi Paul,I accidently posted this in the wrong area , so I thought I would try agin. Anyway I've seen a few different multi-band wire antennas, from slopers, the W5GI 6—80 @ 100 feet, the G5RV 10-80 @ 102 feet the AS-2 covers 10-160 @ 70 feet and Spi-Ro D-56 @ 82 feet 10-80. I know it is commercial antenna and the D-56 pro is preset at the factory so all you have to do is fine-tune the antenna a little on each band if at all, but I’m really not sure about building my first wire antenna anyway. But I saw that a G5RV acts as a 1/2-wave dipole and was wondering if any of the others will work as well as any of the others? The reason I'm looking as some of the other's is because I don't really have room for a 102-foot piece of wire on my property. 42 feet for the Vertical Sloper would be nice, and it is supposed to cover 10-80 with a tuner, but I understand it acts like a vertical 1/4 wave. So would there be a perceptible difference in performance from a 1/2-dipole wire over 1/4 wave wire vertical? And do you have an opinion on any of the others? Thanks in advance |
