The owners manual for the 2950 dx says the operating temperatures are between +14F to +122F. Should I be taking it out of the vehicle and storing it indoors during those times when the temp drops below the 10C? Here in Pennsylvania it can get below the +14F at times. Also, what about the summer months when the car is parked and the windows are rolled up in the blazing sun. I know the inside of the vehicle can come close to or exceed the 122 degree mark. I've been involved in the hobby for about ten years now but I've always run base stations and this is my first mobile. 73's....................Jay |

I would just let it get warmed up in the car before turning it on, I don't think you need to remove the radio every night. As far as the summer heat goes, I'm not sure what to tell you, I've never had a problem with it, and it gets very hot here in IL in the summer, and I have a black car, so I know what you mean about the heat. |

depending upon where i'm parking, i NEVER take my radios, amps etc out of my truck. they've experienced -25F thru +105F outside temp, who knows what the inside temp could've been, 125F or more i suppose. the only problem i see with the cold extremes could be the switches being extremely stiff to the point where you could break 'em. |

I always carry a white towel with me in the summer.I've had the freq. display go crazy on me.Keep the direct sun off your radio.Keep the towel on the radio when you have it parked. It will help. 73 Paul |

Good to know these things. I really didn't want to have to deal with taking the radio out of the car every night. |

I have parked vehicles in weather colder than that (-30F) When I would start the vehicle to warm it up, I would turn the radio on at the same time, let it get warm before I talked on it.

Dexter The LCD displays are touchy My brother lives where they get to -30f and his will go dead untill it warms up. Remember your paying 300 for this radio not 3000 so the parts used are not mil spec. Unless you get very unlucky chances are as most have said HEAT will be a problem not cold. |

Bruce: Yes, you are right...if it gets too cold, it just won't work until it warms up... BUT if it gets too hot......it dies....... |

Well, I plan on tinting the windows on the car when the spring rolls around again. That will definitely keep the inside temp down when it's just sitting around in a parking lot. Also, I may make a white cover out of canvas or something simular that slides over the face of the radio when not in use. Thanks for the help everyone.
