Is there something I can do for static noise on my 696FD1,Can rec. be adjusted? it is being used as a base.I hook it up in the exact same way as my Grant XL and the Grant is beautyful at receiving and is very quiet(no static). I have every thing grounded at antenna and dont understand why the 696 would be any different. Please help, I love the radio except for that. Thanks in advance, airplane |

These are some noisey radio's on recieve.Maybe an alignment will help you but it will never be as quite as your Grant XL.But don't be fooled by all the noise because they do hear good. |

Airplane, I have the 696FD1, and any static I receive in the receive is the result of band conditions/weather conditions, and not the fault of the radio itself. I run my 696FD1 in the mobile (a Ford pickup, no less ! notorious for engine noise) and have no excessive static unless the band conditions cause it. I can easily talk to my wife in her mobile, while we both head to work in opposite directions, at a distance of 20 miles. On my base, I am using a Galaxy DX 2547, which is exactly the same radio as the 696FD1, except for the case and internal power supply. I have very quiet receive on that as well. Really no different from my Grant LT I used to use. Grounding EVERYTHING is an important part of eliminating static from the ground, surrounding electrical components, etc. I will e-mail you some grounding suggestions to see if it will help you out, but don't throw that radio out just yet. |
