If you are running 1 watt dead key AM into an amp what should the radio be swinging? I have my grant xl set at 1 watt dead key and it swings about 2 watts when I say aaaahhhhddeeeeeoooo, I that fine or should it swing more? Thanks |

depends on whether meter is reading peak or rms, and whether radio has been peaked/tuned/clipped and where mic gain is set. my xl has been peaked, limiter clipped on a switch and variable output (wired in place of rf gain). on diamond sx100 meter, rms @ 1w key, swings 4, @4w key swings 7. peak 1w key swings 12, 4w key swings 14. with limiter switched open, swing goes up a couple watts. no fancy (npc) mods done to this radio, just basics. |

Patzerozero, the radio is stock and only opened by me to adjust the AM power to 1 watt and SSB to about 8 watts. I like the way you have your radio set up, does it sound good on the air? Did you do the mods your self? The meter I`m useing is a small radio shack SWR/Power/Modulation. Thanks |
