the insulator between the center conductor and outer edge is made of teflon, vs. something of lesser insulating factor in the cheaper ones. or so i've been told. amphenol also makes a pl259 w/silver plating. the gold plated pl259's are not amphenol, and supposedly lesser quality. how many connectors does your station really use? 10, maybe 20 if you've got a lot of things inline, multiple antennas, radios, etc. you have thousands invested in your station, go for the $2 connector over the 99c one. for that matter, if anyone questions their ability to solder the connectors on, have it done by wherever you get your coax from, again why have a weak link w/all the $ you've spent?
