I already own a Magnaforce 350 amp, and I use it my Uniden 78 with a variable. I'm getting on average with this combo, 360-400 peak watts. I have another uniden 78ltw with no variable. The radio keys 4.5 watts and swings 7 to 8 watts. I'm wondering if I purchase a x-force 200HD as a back up amp, Can the 200HD do 500 watts while being driven with my 2nd Uniden. In other words, the 200HD has a hi-low switch. What can I expect it to do on the low-side (rms/peak), and then on the hi-side (rms/peak), with a 4.5 watt carrier from the radio. Thanks in advance. C'mon folks, I'm quite sure that someone out there has had experience with these amps. I'm used to running all of my amps on low, or med. I just want to know that if this amp is a TRUE HI- DRIVE, can I use the High setting with 4.5 watts drive??, and what would be the resulting rms/peak output?. Wolverine.

Wolverine, If no one has bought one or used one they cannot offer you much help with your question. In the last 10 years I have only had 2 people even ask about them here in Central Illinois and neither of them bought one. The Biggest mover around here has been the Texas Star Line and the KLV Line. Sorry, Lon Tech808 |

x-force/magna force, IN MY OPINION ONLY, as i've only seen/tried a couple and not yet owned one- apparently are fairly abusable, as eveidenced by their manufacture of an UNREGULATED power supply recommened for use only with their own products. they also base their broad range of output on their ability to run on 12-20 volts. you are probably not going to get 880watts out of 4-2sc2879's on 12 volts. with the 200hd and the 350 using the same transistors, i'd say output would be roughly the same, probably a bit less on the hd with less input. i'd seem to believe dodgeman's output being more accurate than wolverines, though maybe a bit lower than possible. too too too many variables in amp setups to compare what one might get vs. another. and if you're using 300 watts base today and 265 watts tomorrow, other than audio tone differences, your friends won't know you're 35 watts shorter than before. i've used and abused texas star products since i was a baby, and i take their watt ratings with a grain of salt too, i go by what radio i plan to use, what the vehicle/power source can handle and what kind of total output i'm looking for. then estimate how many transistors need to get me there and fill in the blanks(drive). in answer to your question-there really is no definite unless you try it |

So, I'm gather from what you are saying Patzerozero, is that since the 200HD is abusable(not saying that I'm going to do abuse it-if purchased), then I can actually use he HI switch on this amp?. I remember reading from "The Yellow Book of CB Repair", that most amps can only be run using the LOW switch, because using the HI switch would result in a muffling, or pinched modulation, as well as the overheating of the linear, and something about the amp will start operating at class C (This amp operates at class 3 already). I just figured that, for a 2-Pill amp with 2879's, this must be a "Stout Box", if I can use the HI switch with 4.5 watts drive, instead of a 1-2 watt drive that most amps require. Thanks. Yes you can use the High switch and yes it can handle a 4.5 watt drive just fine. It would be better if you could have a 1:4 ratio, or at least a 1:3 where your deadkey with amp on is 1/4th/1/3rd (respectively) your PEP, but yes these amps can handle much "abuse". My opinion is a stock radio does not classify as abuse, but could be tuned for better optimum performance. I don't think you will see near 500 watts with just a radio driving it though. It's a great class C amp and will get you heard for sure. Do some on air checks and see how the response is. Too close and they won't be able to tell. Try 10-20 miles apart on a quiet night and see the reponse you get. They may not be able to "see" any difference between high and low, but you might get the answer you seek concerning the audio becoming muffled, pinched, etc. 4.5 watts going into a Xforce should not be a problem, especially driving two forced-fan cooled 2879's. i have a vr-9000 dead key 1.5-10 watts swings 45-50 (depending on if im on the high way) and i drive that into my x-200hd and with a 4 watt dead key i get about a 60watt dead and swing about 350 on a mfj meter.. and thats on low.. if i switch it to high on the highway i can get 500 out of it. my old alt used to be able to push alot better then this stock one before i got 500 all the time |

Thanks Pp1616. I was wondering if this amp was even capable of 500 watts. Most folks would use a 3-pill to get that type of wattage (1 2290x 2 SC2879's). I wound up getting the 2 pill magna-force instead, since it was biased for SSB, which allows me to obtain, almost the same wattage (425 watts) with lower drive. Wolverine. |

ok, on the xforce and magaforce amps, un less your using the 2x6, or the 2x8 on base, they recomend you use the regulated power supply!! they do make both models. but the unreg type only on the 2 big 2x6 and 2x8 that a person will use for base use.. ive been going thru this headache for about 2 months and finally got it straight that the regulated type for any of there amps and the unreg. type for there 2 amps they call there big base amps!! hope this helps some.. thehobo 274150 am monitor ch. |
