I have a galaxy 959 that the recieve drops way down. if you key the mic or turn the radio off and then back on, it comes right back up for a while. I bought the radio brand new from coppers just a short while ago. This was my first brand new radio ever and today when I called to get it fixed under its warranty I was told my brand new radio only had a thirty day warranty. I figured at least one year or even two, eveybody said BUY A GALLAXY, BUY A GALAXY! mite as well bought one from radio shack or even a used one. So very dissapointed. So after recieving the wonderful news, I opened it up. I found if you touch the recieve diodes the low op amp or any capacitor in that area the recieve pops right in good and loud but only for a while. sometimes 5 minutes sometimes 20, just never knows. keying the mic or turning the radio on and then off still works to restore recieve. could any one help me to fix my radio please.

I still think its a cold solder joint/joints
My galaxy had cold solder joints all the time, I am told it is the nature of the beast when it comes to Galaxy. Get a Magnum S9 I like it :-)
Any way I know that no one has the money to throw around so just try to re solder all the joints that you menchoned you touched and see if that works. Be carefull.

Rogerbeep,

#1 ~ Copper only Covers problems with radios for 30 Days.

#2 ~ In your owners manual it should show that you have a 2 year Warranty from Galaxy.

#3 ~ NO Copper Tech is going to tell anyone to Open a New Radio under factory warranty and to start looking for problems and soldering or repair anything that can possibly Void your Factory Warranty by even breaking the Warranty Seal.

#4 ~ If you would have called the Galaxy repair center at the number I posted above, it should have been covered under your factory warranty which is 2 years and they would have Fixed it FREE and double checked EVERYTHING for you.

#5 ~ The Radio Manufactuters are very Specific on the Warranties that they place on radios and #1 - IS NEVER TELL ANYONE to open a radio under warranty and try and repair it.

That is why GALAXY has the GALAXY SERVICE CENTER to take care of this type of problems.

#6 ~ And it also prevents anyone from ever saying a Copper Tech told me to Break the Warranty Seal and try to fix it myself and it VOIDED my Factory Warranty!

#7 ~ And as NONE of the Copper Forum Techs or Moderators are Employed by Copper Electronics, I really do not think we would be very welcome by the Forummaster or the Radio Manufacturers if we started telling people to do this.

Hey Robert.

No one is blaming you. He never mentioned that his radio was still under "Factory Warranty".

Lol. And since Rogerbeep thinks that you are putting the Techs to shame, we're all going to step down now because like Lonnie, we're all getting old and tired now anyways.
------------------

Rogerbeep.

In the event you haven't noticed, one does not have to be a Tech in order to help someone with a radio problem. If you think for one minute that the Techs have the answers for every radio problem that they haven't benched themselves, then you are sadly mistaken.

The Techs on this forum are not here as much as most of the other forum members. And many times, the problem/s are solved BEFORE the Techs even see the post.

The Techs are here to help when we can, and if we can. That's what we're 'ALL' here for....to help each other and to learn from each other. Coppers Forum is a wonderful learning tool for anyone interested in radio communications. And yes, even the Forum Techs can learn some new tricks with many of these new radios from other Forum Members.

'Everyone' on Coppers Forum is in great danger of learning something new here if they hang around more than 10 minutes. So, proceed with caution!

By the way, good call Robert.

Jeff,
Like you said (between the lines) Experience is everything, no matter if you’re a tech or not if you have experienced the problem, you probably know what the problem was. I have had that particular problem before in my previous Galaxies and the "I touch it and it works again" or " I key up and it works again" was a dead give away for me. But all that aside I have to say one thing,
I WAS FINALLY RIGHT!
Now that I am done basking in the "smartness" that is me! I will say this:
The Copper forum has been of great help to me and many more people in the past. As for my self I was helped as shortly as yesterday with a big problem by none other than Lon. But I am sure it could have easily been any one else. I am in no way a tech! I have said this time and time again! I can't stress this enough! I BLOW UP RADIOS!!!! A LOT!!!! The only difference between me and a lot of other people is, I usually can fix them afterwards. All this came with experience, and years of doing this stuff. I have never been trained or taught by any one, really. Never read any books on this subject, etc. Therefore some of my theories are completely off the wall and most of the time wrong. But that's the way I learn best, by my mistakes. I sometimes wish I were a "tech" but that will come in time. I am only 24 now. And I got my first Ham rig a month ago. That is what I love about this hobby, I have never stopped learning, and sometimes I can even teach. So in conclusion I would like to say
"No way in heck am I taking your place because if I do, we are gonna have some angry people on our hands :-) "

Just wanted to put in my two counterfeit pennies here....

I appreciate everyone who chimed in with advice on my Galaxy. I, being 20 years old do not have the knowledge on hand to work on my radio. I know a few things about CB..being in the game for 7 or so odd years, I know a good talking radio when I hear one and I myself like to have a good talking rig. I'm proud to boast I have some of the better sounding radio's locally.

Again, to the Tech's and various posters who chimed in, kudos. I do highly appreciate the lended hands from everyone.
