I would like to know from you experts, is their a TRUE, TRUE, 5/8's wave mobile antenna that exists in the market??. I'm not talking about 1/4 antennas, that claim to be a 5/8's wave. I know there exists one out there somewhere. Thanks. Wolverine. |

For what band? 2meters YES many TRUE 5/8 wave antennas they are about 50 inch tall. On 6 Meters all the ones ive ever seen are 1/4 Wave. On 10/11 meters a 5/8 wave would be over 20 foot! NOW i wiil not say that SOME NUT dosn't drive around with one .... But if he does watch out for falling wires! |

No. A true 5/8 wave antenna would be 22.5 feet tall. Not very forgiving in mobile apps. It is possible to load up 5/8 wave of wire to a shorter antenna, but the performance goes down a bunch. |

wolverine the big boys hold 'key-downs', big watts, big antennas, but don't drive w/them, even beams. in MY opinion, the big skip talking types of antennas can outperform the standard commercially sold antennas. as for expert, i'm an experimenter and use what works for me. anybody can try whatever they think think to prove or disprove-so can you! |

Okay, I guess the term 5/8's wave for 11 meters must be a misnomer. I've been to a few shoot-outs, and those antennas look like base station ants. Can't picture myself riding around with a 20' lightning rod. Thanks guys for the lesson. Wolverine. |

????? SKIPTALKING ????? VERY INTERESTING .........To be honest there ARE better, and not so good antennas. Larson's 'Cool Rods' are a well designed antenna while some "MADE IN CHINA" antennas are just plain JUNK. That said, MOST 1/4 Wave whips are the same, and except for maybe a 7 foot HAMWHIP, will out proform ANY loaded antenna. NOW, if you can't haul around a 9 foot whip, there is nothing wrong with a 5 foot Firestik .... You will probably only see a few dB of change. (Spelling and grammar corrected for clarity of message) |
