This question is for anyone that has an answer. I am wanting to know what is the proper equipment for testing/tuning/aligning cb radios? I have a few B&K O'scopes, a Knight Signal Generator, an older military frequency/signal generator. One scope is 30mhz and the other is 10mhz if my memory serves me correct. Is either of these scopes useful to me or just taking up space? The Knight piece, I don't even use, it's boxed up. The military one, I've used, but without a frequency counter it's hard to tell what freq I'm creating. I need a good freq counter to read this piece of equipment and also radio output. I'm using the Aries HP-5000 meter and checking against a Diamond meter, my Aries shows a little higher readings. Which meter do I trust? If my Aries is wrong, does anyone have the adjustment list for the pots inside the meter to calibrate it with? I guess I'm asking for advice on which name brand and model number of equipment to look for that will suite my needs.

Remindes me of an old saying I heard once,A man with 1 watch knows what time it is,a man with 2 watches isnt sure!I would suggest if the 30 mhz scope is newer(and maybe smaller) and works good ,peddle off the 10mhz.on your Knight S.G..how far would you trust the main dial without any way to check or calibrate it.doesnt the mil sig-gen have a spot or marker setting for calibration?not familiar with the Diamond or Aries so cant help you there.a freq counter is a must look for names like B-K,HP and Sencore.B-K made a service center specificaly for use on cb radios ,I believe the model # was BK2040,almost an all in one setup. |

Actually, B&K Did make one for the CB radios. it was the 1040 Service Master. Which, by the way, I'm looking for another one. Anybody got one? or know where to get one in good shape? |

Oh ok, My bad. Yes, we have one identical to that in the shop as well, But I also have one that sits on the wall with two meters in it. one that reads modulation, and one that reads power etc. Also has a 1khz tone in it with a tiny speaker and foam around it. It is a BK1040 Service master. |

Cuddlebear,I think the bk2040 was an upgraded version to service newer radios.pretty sure it had a 2-tone generator for servicing ssb tranceivers.

eBay baby...eBay. I've seen many of these on there, but they usually bring a high dollar. I'd love to have one myself, but I can't see paying those prices for something I can't see work before hand. Then I'm stuck with it. The military sig generator has a modulation meter on it and a rf ammeter on it also. It has a dial with freqs on it to show the freq you are generating. I believe I'm ok on that, but I know I need a freq counter and I need a scope. Both scopes seem to work fine. |
