More in detail , I mean is the Transmitter working at the same time the squeal is going off , If so it is a shorted capacitor. If the Transmitter is dead but you hear the squeal , it is something different. |

Assuming that this radio is new to you and did not just start doing this then here's something else to check. I recently came across a Mark III that I thought had a problem. The squeal was so long I though there was something wrong. Turn the volume down low so you can barely hear the squeal, it's annoying for long periods, and wait for about 10 seconds and see if it quits. The Mark III I mentioned had such a large capacitor it had a real long ping. I don't know about on a Mark II but on the III the capacitor is right behind the "on the air light", if you want to check it out. |

Does the squeal go away after a few seconds, or does it squeal continiously? If it goes away , the radio is supposed to do that. If the squeal does not go away at all, the large cap in the bottom side of the rec. is bad. The factory cap is 40-60uf @450v d.c. If u change orck. this cap, unplug the radio& ground the + side of the cap EVERY TIME!! If not it WILL bite you. Outlaw 537 |

My 2 has that legendery squeal too that feeds back through the speaker but it is only a few seconds long. Some guys mod the radios to have a short or long "ping" by adding a switch to the rear of the radio. |
