ok im wanting to buy a meter and i like the ones with 3 seperate meters on them SWR POWER MODULATION the problem is someone told me that they dont measure modulation on SSB just on AM and i should look for one that works on both i was thinking the Dosy TFC-3001 but that does only am modulation then i thought the Dosy TC-4001 it can read SSB modulation but its all in one meter instead of 3 seperate meters which seems easier to read or should i look for another brand i cant afford a bird meter then next question i see everyone says use a dummy load to measure power and modulation but the largest i found is a paradynamics 100w dry dummy load my 2970DX does more than that and i have a palomar 250 for my 148 which will soon be replaced by a 2950DX where can i find a larger one or do i need a larger dummy load |

The idea behind using a dummy load for testing is you aren't interfereing with other people trying to talk on the channel. In my experience the power readings done on a dummy load are considerbly higher than those done through your antenna system. |

A dummy load that is an exact 52 Ohm match is the BEST way to tune up a radio. The measurements you see on your meter (pending it is calibrated) will reflect EXACT measurements and are highly accurate. The reason they are HIGHER is because the RF transfer is very high and ALL the power is going to the load where as an antenna , all the power does not make it because of the impedance transfer. |

EITHER WAY I STILL HAVENT GOT AN ANSWER TO WHICH METER AND WHICH DUMMY LOAD LOL |

Sorry , they are all about the same , I like the Dosy meters for quick tests. The dummy load can be picked up at "MFJ" , search for "MFJ" on the web ,they have many dummy loads and are cheap. |
