I'm thinking of getting a texas star 667 to go with my 99v,but some people told me that if you have a super mod kit in the radio it will over drive the 667.the kit I have was installed in Houston about 6 mo ago and the radio will swing about 40w no matter what the dead key is.The reason I'm asking this is I was told the 667 has a built in modulator.True or False????? yes the 667 has a built in 'modulator', and your radio will overdrive the 667 the way it is now.

You'd be better off with a Texasstar DX500 or 500HDV.

Thanks guys,I thought so.Rather safe than sorry! Can't I get about the same power and swing out of the 500HDV with the mod kit as a 667 without it?Stepchild

You'll get pretty close. Close enough that nobody on the other end would ever notice the difference. Don't forget that most people who get huge numbers out of the 667 are overdriving it a bunch, generating harmonics and IMD. With the 500, you will be far less likely to have that problem, it will run cooler, be more stable, and last longer.

I have a TS DX500 pushed by a TS Modulator Plus. Same thing as a TS 667. It really rocks. Plus the control of only needing a few bump watts (Only Mod) to midrange (DX500 on low) to really tearing it up (both on low) Don't allow both red buttons glow at the same time because it don't gain you much.
