I have a problem with my KLV1000 P. The other day I tried to re touch up on my input adjust knob. While tuning there was a spark inside the amp. I noticed that their was a
Blown fast acting 4amp fuse on KLV 1000 P board. I replaced the fuse with the type of fuse that was in it.
I transmitted with the amp with full wattage a half a dozen times or more after that. One morning,
I fired up the amp and kicked it off of standby. It won’t key. Everything lights up. The radio keys through the amp with no difficulty but the amplifier will not key up. Do you have any idea what might be wrong, or where I could have it repaired close to home without sending back to the manufacturer in Italy? I thought the fuse would be the easier fix. No fuses on board are blown and everything lights up but won’t key. Got any answers. Thank you!

Bassbug,

Check to make sure you have not blown the 4 amp fuse at the rear of the board again.

Copper also carries these fuses for the KLV's.

If you did Check both SO-239 Connector's (RTX and ANT) on the Rear of the Amplifier and Make sure one of them did not become Loose.

After 17 Month's of moving mine and hooking and unhooking the coax many times I had the same problem and checked the SO-239's and sure enough one was loose.

Like a Dummy I replaced one and when I was putting it back into hole on shelves the other one came loose when I was hooking the coax up.

If you find one Loose / try and jiggle them or move them up & down.

I would highly suggest Re-Placing BOTH of them to save future headache's.

Replace them with Radio Shack UHF SO-230 Coax Connector's / PART #278-201.

They are the best quality one's I have found anywhere and very well built with a Crimped end on one end to prevent them from coming loose.

Let me know if this is what you find

Hope this help's.

Lon,
After closer inspection there was a component that was blown, apparently, I was able to transmit a few times after replacing a fuse. It had not burnt all the way threw as I was able to transmit on it. It is TR2 location on the board right next to D4 which is with a series of D2 D3 D4.D5 D6 D7 D8 D9. As I said the board print looks like TR2. I have a schematic that I examined from the KLV’s website. They have TR5 next to D4. I was able to retrieve a piece of the blown black ceramic with the numbers of C5470 that’s why I am thinking it was originally a TR5 in the board location with the print of TR2. Were can I purchase the BC 547? Can I by it locally or get it at coppers? Maybe Radio Shack Carrey’s it? If I find the part I can have it replaced easily locally. Any help you can give me Lon would be extremely appreciated. Do you think I might have done this while adjusting impute adjust knob? I would like to know what I did so I can avoid this in the future after I get the amplifier repaired. Thanks Eddie
