What would cause a klv 350 to immediately blow it's own internal fuse the second I key up?

Need some more info on this one.
First how old is the box? When did you first notice a problem, Did the powerout start dropping off before the fuse issue? What is your SWR?
Th reason I ask it if one of your finals went bad they could be internaly shorted, this will only cause a problem when you keyup and the KLV's relay puts the finals in the circuit, then pop fuse is bad.
Also some boxes a made to blow the fuse on keyup if the SWR is to high, I havent used a KLV 350 so im not shure if the box is designed for this but some are.
Ok and for one of the stupid responses, is it wired correctly? Radio to TX/input Antanna to RX/input, Positive to Positive, Negative to Negative? Sorry had to ask.

Ok first of all I apologise for asking such a question without a little background info first. I dont know how old this box is but it looks relatively new very clean and mint. I ran it for about 3 months with no problems on a perfect swr and about 2-9 watts input for am from a 2950. Everything was connected right. Ok this is where the problem started. My girlfriend was talking on it to me one night on my way home from work and she had the power turned all the way up on the omegaforce s-45 by accident my fault, it talked fine no static good modulation. when I got home as soon as I keyed it up the fuse inside popped. That's when I noticed where the power was set on the radio. I replaced the fuse and the same thing happened. When the fuse is replaced the box turns on and the tubes light up no smoke no smell. As soon rf enters the box the fuse pops. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I really like this amp and I got a great deal on it thanks......

Ok,Today I just installed two new 6kg6 tubes made by RCA and now the fuse blows the minute I hit the power switch to turn the amp on.If I take the tubes out and replace the fuse the amp will turn on and not blow a fuse just as long as there is no tubes installed. Any ideas? what direction should I go in now?

Sledgehammer,

I have not owned or used the KLV 350, but as a suggestion check to make sure that Both SO-239 Connector's on the rear are Good and Tight where you screw your coax on.

Hook a Jumper onto them and see if they will move around by moving the coax up and down and back and forth.

With No tube's installed there is No Load going thru the coax or connector's.

Just a thought.

I checked them just now with a jumper and they seem to be as tight as they could be. Could the fan possibly be possibly bad. I did notice that it was making sort of a grinding sound when it was warming up before but went away once the box was warm and ready to talk. Possibly drawing too much current?

Today I tried something I don't like to do but I took out the blown 3 amp fuse and replaced it with a 5 amp and it stayed on. I kept it on low and fed a dead key of 1.5 watts out of a trc-433 into it and talked on it for about two hours with the new tubes and it worked fine. The box stayed very cool and no components seemed to be overheating. Am I risking more damage running it with 2 more amps in circuit? What should I do? This is my first amp and I really don't have any experience with these things.
