I know that this is a crappy meter, but hey! it's my crappy meter. If you remove the cover there are alot of adjustment pots inside. I'd like to calibrate it against my Bird meter. I know there are no comparisons between the two, but like I said it's my crappy meter. Anyone with any list of what these pots control?

Thanks

LOL. I like your attitude Kev. I have a lot of (not the best) stuff that I like to keep around too.

I don't recall which VR (varible resistor) is for which scale, but you can easily find out yourself if you care to experiment a little. I have also calibrated some unknown meters to my Bird in this manner.

I'm going to assume that yours has the 10, 100 and 1000 watt scales. Rule number one to remember is that ALL RF power meter is at it's most accurate at full scale.

First of all, mark down on paper what readings you are getting on your Bird at different power levels. Doing this will give you a reference to go with.

Mark all VRs on the meter to be calibrated with some kind of marker. That way you know where to put them "back" to if needed. By the way, a dummyload is a must because calibrating a meter into an antenna is a no no.

Now, starting with the meter in the 10 watt scale, turm each VR a little each way until you find the one for the 10 watt scale. Once you find the correct VR, mark it in some way so that you know that is indeed the VR for the 10 scale. Then switch the meter to the 100 watt scale and do the same thing. Then the 1000 watt scale.

Now that you know which VR is for which scale, then you can calibrate each scale according the the readings that you got from the Bird. Be sure you are calibrating this meter with the same amount of power that you were "sending" into your Bird.

When making these calibrations, try to do it at the top or near top end of the scale. In otherwords, if you are calibrating the 10 watt scale, try to have 8 to 10 watts going into the meter. And the same for the 100 watt scale. If possible, have around 100 watts going into it if that's what you had going into your Bird. All RF power meters are calibrated and most accurate at near to full scale.

I hope this may have been some help to you. Let me know how it worked out.

Jeff.
