Just wondering if anyone has ever disabled the fan in a pyramid ps21kx?, I'ts really not that noisy but i try to keep background noise to a min. & my desk mic has to sit right against it.
Thinkin bout putting a off & on switch on it. Is that advisable,It really dont get warm anyway. Just runnin a 2950dx on it.
Thanks for any advice.

I wouldent remove the fan, a switch is only a soso idea, you may not rember to turn it on. If you want to cut down the background try to replace it with a computer case fan that changes speed with temp changes. I replaced the fan on my PS-52KX with one and it works great, the one I used is very quiet at low speeds and is only about as loud as the stock fan at full speed.

I didn't know puter fans did that,Will try one. Thanks a lot for the info Nobody ,I got one of those 52kx's also.Just bought it bout two or three weeks ago & runnin a palomar 35a on it,(same as a boomer 500)base linear. The power suppy went out in the 35a & the 52kx has a little trouble holding it on ssb. I gotta turn variable all the way down & put linear on low,but it swings what it used to.I calbrated my watt meter & it was way too free. I'm getting around 500 to 550 on ssb but if I turn variable up on ssb,(which is how I used to run the 35a) The 52kx wants to kick out at about 600 watts swing on the amplifier. It runs a.m. like a charm. Long as the variable is down. I did'nt know it was up the night I blew the 35a. I guess I had been on a.m. barefoot & forgot. Always left it down on a.m.
Wonder why the 35a's power supply always held to the end where the 52kx kicks out ? I think it was only a 35 amp.
Anyway,i'm rambling again,
Thanks Nobody.
If I can ever help you or anyone on anything I know anything about, (which aint much), I'll be glad.

No Problem Nomeancity, Not all Computer case fans have the temp/speed design, The one I use is made by Antec, They call there line of temp controled fans "SmartCool", but many other companies have the same thing.
Im not real shure but I think the PS in the 35a is big enough to handel the amp side plus 35amps for your radio and such, The 52kx is a 52amp peak supply, mine starts to have voltage drop around 45amps. If you estamate 100w=10a at 12-14v then the PS is maxing out, What type of meter are you useing to see 600w out of the amp? I belive it has 4 SD1446 finals in it, iny more than 500w on a good meter and your ovrdriveing the amp.
Ill look for you on 27.465, When im on that band I go by "Unit 77", but I only got 150w and a 100ft longwire so im not shure about the short skip over your way.

I really need a new watt meter Nobody, When I got this thing used, It was so free a 4 watt radio showed 20 watts dead key swinging 50!!! I turned it down, but not enough.
I believe I got it closer than it was though.
SSB shows about right now, swings about 400watts on SSB. That would be about right for that size of amplifier. But when I'm on A.M. It's still unbelievable.
It used to be a good one at one time I guess,It's a power scanner PDC 700. I'ts ready for burial along with a bunch of other radios & mike parts out in the back yard.
I will listen for you on 27.465 A.M. & LSB also.
I go by 303 Va. & P.A. on am.
This is the time of year that skip is crazy, Maybe we'll hookup.
