I'm looking for a good barefoot radio.. 2970 sounds nice. Here's the deal. If I choose to amp it (which I probably will)I don't want to have to get a HD amp. What can the output power be turned DOWN to? I'm sure you would say hea why not get a 2950 put I just want that little more kick barefoot. Thanks in advance the the replys :-) |

Prowler242 OK. I'll bite. Why don't you just get a 2950? The 2950 will drive any solid state amplifier. It can even easily drive an amplifier to destruction if you're not careful. Why not just run a 2970 by itself? With a "correctly" done NPC modification, they easily have power capabilities of over 200 watts on both AM and SSB. Personally, I wouldn't dream of driving a 2970 into any kind of solid state amplifier. There are however some big tube type Ham amplifiers that require 100 watts of exciter "input" power. That kind of amplifier and a 2970 would work great on 10 meters with a few keying modifications. Other than that, a 2950 will easily drive anything out there. Jeff, kc0gxz. |

Prowler242 If set up correctly, that combination will be great. Jeff, kc0gxz. |
