I have a DX 350 amp that works fine until you turn on the receive pre-amp. It seems to try to oscillate and shuts down my receive all together. It seems worse when the amps warm. Do i need a new transistor ?? Haven't got around to trying that yet. |

If you can live without the Pre-amp, don't use it. Or, if you feel that you really need it, just pull the little pre-amp transistor out and replace it.
Putting a pre-amp in an amplifier is a waste since all they can do is amplify all the hash and trash that's already out there on the air.
Pre-amp transistors are usually the first thing to die in an amplifier since it is not shielded. There are massive amounts of RF power floating around inside an amp when it's keyed up and that is what usually destroys the pre-amp transistor.

I like having a pre-amp sometimes since they do help pull in unreadable signals when the channel is reasonably clear. I'll probably change the transistor and go from there. |

Found the problem, had a bad capacitor in the pre-amp, went ahead and changed the transistor for luck. Works fine now !! |

I am having this same problem. I added about 2 feet of coax to my antenna line and it stops. What is going on with my Texas Star? |
