I have a 2001 Z71,Galaxy 66 and a Texas Star 500 setup. After I installed my amp, and keyed up while the engine was running it made it miss, and stumble, which made my check engine light come on. I have the power and ground run directly to the battery. Got any ideas what I can do to prevent this. As is I can't use my amp at all while the engine is running. |

Were you idling or going down the road, put it this way,the alternator needs about 1300 rpm for full output,if your engine does not produce those rpm most of the time you will rob critcal components in the electrical system of current when you key up,if this is the case take it out of overdrive to give your engine a few more R's,if you're idling speed up the engine. Now the other possibility, tie all moveable or isolated body panels together with heavy wire to form a ground plane for your antenna with uniform reactance, and with an amp that big get a wilson 5000 mag mount and place on cab roof, this keeps the interior of cab and electronic wiring out of the RF field AND if you have a trailer harness bypass all hot leads with 47 ufd 16 volt caps to the grnd.this will keep RF out of your computer.period.Unless you have plastic or fiberglass body panels, then you're sunk. |

The problem is when the engine is at normal highway speeds. I have a wilson 5000 mounted to the bed (middle) with a ground wire running from the mount to the frame, but still have same problems. Is this problem due to coax/antenna issues more so than power wire routing? |

bed rail or in the bed,put it on roof, keep it above the glass, windshield and side and rear windows there will be no problem, you are getting rf into the wiring then to computer, glass will not stop rf,if clearance is a problem,a wilson mag mount is best compromise,if in bed then you are loading the bed with rf and reradiating it,you may be killing the fuel pump momentarily, that will surely kill engine, the bed is not grounded to frame usually, ground bed then watch your swr go nuts, because most radiation is now going to ground,no simple solution, unless you got an electric chain saw and cut slot in garage for whip.but that's for die hards,Bigbob |

I think that that might amp might be too big for your alternator. That amp pulls about 45 amps on high. |

I would suggest you put the antenna on the roof, and ground the linear with a short, frame ground, I never ground any of my equipment to the battery, that seems to cause a lot of problems. Good Luck! |
