My question is this: How does a person know if the swr meter you are using is correct. I recently purchased a pdc 700 power scanner to run on my rig. I replaced a 3 meter radio shack type with it. I have been tuning a 3 element beam with my new power scanner and have gotten the swr where I want it. 1:1 and 1:2. Just for the heck of it I hooked up my old meter which I have used for many years and it showed 2:5 to 2:7. What gives? I would like to think that the new meter is right and my old one is wrong, but how would a person really know? Is there a way to test your swr meter to see if in fact it is accurate without getting a third meter and taking the chance of haveing 3 different readings and being really confused. I would like to get this beam tuned and get it up. But I hate to do that, not knowing for sure what the swr is. Since one says, my works is done, and the other says, it time to go back to work. How does the factory when building meters, test a meter and by what standards do they use to do this. There must be a way to check and be sure. It would be a shame to pay someone to put this ant. up, and find out that it wont talk across town because of standing wave and have to pay again to take it back down. |

Yes,go to radio shack and get a 50 ohm 10watt resistor then solder one end in the center conducter whole of a pl259 then the other end to the outside of the pl259. If your swr meter reads a flat match with this screwed in where the antenna goes then your meter is reading right. "ANOTHER THING DONT PUT OVER 8 WATTS THROUGH THIS!!!" |
