I am thinking about mounting my equip, except the radio which will be up front, in an old computer case. Maybe an amp, modulator, meter. Does any one forsee any probs with this. Also before anyone says cooling, the fans in a computer case typically use 12vdc to operate. Your input will be much appreciated! You can see my beast at this web site. http://www.grump1.com follow the photo's link.

Just make sure you have plenty of ventilation, either natural or forced via fan(s) |

I did something like this back about 1978, I used an old wooden broadcast radio case, the chassic was gone from the old radio. I mounted a 40 channel SSB/Am mobile radio with lots of channels, freq counter, palomar 500 wattmeter and power supply in the case. Also used the big speaker in the old radio, and some of the switches, and mounted a mike connector on the front panel. Looked pretty nice, and was a conversation piece. I've got an old pic, not very good, but will post it, you can tell a little about it. |

Well dug out all my junk I've been collecting, and even the small fans on the cpu's are 12vdc, so I have halfa dozen of those so far, plus some from power supplies. So I will use the smaller ones on the heat sinks for some of the equip. and use the big ones to pull air out of the case. Just need that freq. meter to show up on the door step, so i can cut it's hole. |

UPDATE: Well I am near completion of this project. I used three 4" fans on the back of the case to pull air thru. I used three 2" fans mounted on a bracket to blow air across the heat sink of the amplifier. I think this should be sufficient. i will post pictures to my web site when done. |

Wildrat Your tower is sounding cool! Have you checked Chesters in largo? The guy who run it is a ham he caters to the repair dealears the old TV repair shops but its been there 20+ years and in the back he has a pile of scraped computer and old electronics ..... you never know what you might find there.... They even have a tailgate party about once every 3 months. Got a scanner? http://www.carshamradio.org/bin/site/templates/splash.asp Local nets Sun 8pm 146.550fm, Wends 52.02fm and you never know what ( or who ) might be on 146.97, 146.64 or 146.85.

Well, no pictures yet, I have been preoccupied with my web server, I have been getting denial of service attacks from sorry individuals, and i have been tinkering with a couple of websites i am working on, and i also have my 72 chevelle wagon project, plus the radio, plus, plus, plus, as you say not enough time, oh did i mention the video card going out in one of my machines. I had a good time with that one figuring out why the machine did not want to boot properly. Oh well, and that was yesterday, not to mention the new pain meds the doc gave me. Oh haven't got to chesters yet. Well see ya later. |

Well I did get some pictures taken. I have not put them on the web site yet. I do have some more pictures of my chevelle wagon on http://www.grump1.com They are just the engine bay where the frame has been painted in preparation for the motor, which is ready to be put in as soon as I get some help from one of my boy's so they can do most of the physical labor involved in removing the engine from my truck. Anyway that's my update.
