I am rewiring a car I am restoring. I am about ready to run the wiring for the stereo. Do ya'll think I should route the speaker wires on the other side of the vehicle away from the radio coax? Or is it not going to make much difference. Seems to me to be a good idea to do it this way, but I am feeling a bit lazy, and am trying to get out of pulling panels on the otherside of the vehicle. Thank You! |

Wildrat, With a GOOD shielded coax there shouldn't be a problem. Make the speaker wires as short as possible and twist them, if they are of the flat wire style. Make your twist even, so many turns to the inch as an example. Untwisted wire is more sceptable to picking up stray RF. No mater where it may originate. Whether the source is the radio, antenna, coax or for that matter a bad mic connection. When running the coax, do NOT kink it or coil in small coils. The use of a Balum or mobile TVI filter that is grounded, will also help with any interference problem you may encounter. A good example, happened to a neighbor. His garage door would go up and down when he keyed the mic on his mobile. I know it saved reaching for another button, but, when it came down on the car that was the last straw. Hope this has been of a little help. 73's Iron Mask |
