I've read that changing the final transistor in the Uniden Pro520xl will really open this radio. I think the new transistor is a C1969, but I don't know which is the exact final transistor. Can anyone offer any advice on this mod? Thanks!!! |

If all you're interested in is wattmeter readings, the 2SC1969 is definitely meaner. It won't typically boost the power enough to make a big difference at the other end, where it counts. The increase on your wattmeter may LOOK like a lot, but it won't look that much larger on the receiver's meter at the other end. One-half s-unit more or less. Tops. Probably less. If the final fails in a radio like that, you may find that the "bigger" 2SC1969 is a cheaper replacement than the lower-rated stock final transistor. It's a perfectly good way to replace a blown one, but the same money spent towards a linear will get you a lot more miles per dollar in transmit range. If the radio ain't broke, spending money to 'fix' it anyway won't buy you much in the way of useful results. 73 |

i agree with 2600, if i was hot rodding a radio, id not go with a 510/520 type anyway. do a nice modulation/power mod and live with it for what it is. maybe get a amp behind her thats where youll see a big change. i wouldnt sink alot of money in that kind of radio. just my 2 cents |
