dave, Turn the modulation pot up full blast, then back it off just a hair from wide open. Adjust your dead key to about 1/3 - 1/2 of your radio's absolute top output power. Adjust your SSB power (ALC) to max. DO NOT CUT the modulation limiter. This is usually a diode or a resistor. If it is cut, put it back. Adjust your power mic (with a modulation meter) to where peaks in the tone of your voice just hit 100% modulation. Leave the "Dynamic" (on the radio) all the way up. Of course this is just my opinion... Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |

You hit is right on the nose from my experiences tech181. I have always had better luck not cutting the diode. It keeps you from overmodulating. Clipping the diodes seems to drive the radio and reduce it's life, makes it too easy to overmodulate, and also causes alot of bleedover. If you look on the oscilliscope the sine wave looks like a square when they are cut. ((cause people always run them to the max) This is just my opinion and I am wrong. Please correct me if I am wrong. |

b1kshad0w, Yes. All that overdriven mess causes the waves to distort and flat-top. You can even hear it when someone is using a radio where the limiter has been cut. The sound is "tell-tale". Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |

That's how I tell too. I just wish I had a scope. |
