Hi guys. I bought from Copper, the fancy swr/watt meter back in summer that was on sale. Now, I want to hook it up. What is proper length of jumper cable between the radio base and the meter?
Does it matter which ocax you use? Ex. rg8 vs. rgu mini 8 etc.etc. etc. Thanks.

Keith,

I use mini 8 at 6' length. This serves me well. It depends how many items are in the line from radio to antenna. Example; Radio, SWR meter, Low pass filter, amp?, Low pass filter, SWR meter. I use the same type and length between all units. I have an overall SWR of 1.2 to 1. Hope that helps.

What about a 2 foot or 3 foot jumper? Is that long enough?

keith,

to get the most accurate reading, you really need to use an electrical 1/2 wave length between the radio and the meter. key word here is 'electrical'.this is also called the 'critical length'. this length, repeats what is at the source(radio). in other words, what the meter sees/shows is the same thing that the radio sees.

-if- you have a perfectly tuned, antenna, then none of this matters, and any length will work well.

related, but yet another story for another day, this(1st paragraph) is how to properly tune a transmitter for a 'conjugate' match when the load is anything but 50ohms.

Well,it says 300 watts max and it MEANS 300 watts max,you run it with a 4 pill and it goes snap, crackle, pop, much like a microwave with aluminum foil(sound that is),I'm sure with a larger cabinet and coil it would handle more, will have to try it.
