I was looking at a friends President Teaberry Stalker in which someone installed 4 triple-pole switches, the standard 4.7K resisters but did not cut any traces and added in diodes. Obviously it works, but is there something I missed? It's probably simple electronics but could someone please explain it to me? I like the idea of not cutting traces. I'll try to attach a schematic I drew. Thanks /image{858mod} |

That is what I do to install digi-scan units on those radios I use the pa-cb SW to add-remove the digi-scan pwr-GND. the unit operates normaly by the channel knob, but when you add pwr-gnd the outside SW[digi-scan] takes over. Still need more info? I will check back here. |

Thanks for the reply. It's been a while since I saw this setup. I'll try to re-post the picture. I liked his setup and it seems to work just fine. It's just I've never seen it done in this manner. Can't upload the picture. Here's a link. http://viking245.8k.com/Teaberry%20858.gif

If memory serves the "no-cut" setup worked only on the AM-only radios with the 858 chip. But NOT on the SSB models. The internal frequencies in a SSB/AM radio are different. That made the binary sequence from the channel switch different. If you look closely, you might notice two wires between the channel selector and the circuit board that are wired to those switches. Separate individual wires on the selector make this possible. All the SSB models I remember with the 858 would use a "ribbon"-style flat cable from the channel switch to the circuit board. Cutting traces was easier than molesting two wires out of a flat cable. 73
