Is an Astron RS-20A Powersupply (16amp constant, 20surge) enough to power a KL200P Mobile amp? I'll be driving the amp with a RCI 2985DX with the power turned way down. Haven't gotten the 2985 yet, so I don't know how low I can bring the output to. I'm mainly worried about powering the amp though. |

Figure P = I x E....20 amps X 13.8 volts = 276 watts MAX. Figure 60% EFF , so 276 watts x 60% EFF = 165.6 watts MAX... 307 |

Zumble can i give you a warning? i understand that you already own the KL200P and all but your going to get addicted and your going to want more power so just be aware LOL and when you are considering going to a larger amp also go oversize on the power supply try a Astron RS 70M,,, that gives 57 amp continuous and 70 surge or get a base amplifier with a built in power supply,,,just my opinion I will see you at the radio addiction meetings LOL HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

So what you're saying is no. Because of efficiency, 20amps is only able to support 165 watts? |

That is about correct...you can probably push 200 watts out of it and it will take it... |

Happy Hammer: Actually, I don't have the amp yet. I do have the power supply. I was planning on using the power supply with my uniden grant. But then I got a 2985dx in the auction. So I figure since I have the power supply, why not get a small amp for it. ;) I have it all planned out. When the addiction gets out of hand. The Grant and the KL200 will go in the mobile and I'll get a base amp.. ;) Its all about getting my fix now. =) |

Copper_Fan: How are the Boomer Amps? I haven't read too much about them. How do they compare to the KLVs? I keep reading good stuff about the KLVs. It's so much easier to spend 50 dollars than 225. |
