I RAN A POST A WHILE BACK ON MY YAESU 101 LOSING ITS RECIEVE, A GUY THAT LIVES ABOUT A MILE FROM ME IS A TECH FOR 4 RADIO STATIONS IN TOWN, AND A LONG TIME HAM. HE SAID, IN THE SPRING, WHEN WINDS ARE HIGH, IT BLOWS A LOT OF SAND (LIVE IN THE DESERT), AND THE SAND BLOWS ACROSS THE ANTENNAS AND CAUSES A STATIC CHARGE THAT CAN ZAP YOUR RADIO. POSSIBLE, OR NOT??? HE PUT A 35K40 MOSFET SOMETHING IN MY RADIO, AND IT FIXED THE PROBLEM. HE SAID ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE ANTENNAS TO AVOID THIS. TRUE OR NOT???

Crafter and Bruce

Don't say that too loud. Someone just might figure a way to make a (much needed I'm sure) military weapon out of it.

The same can occur in a blizzard in winter very dry snow blowing across your antenna can build a static charge strong enough to jump a 1/4 inch gap, thank god for polyphazors.Even though your rig and antenna is grounded and dc grounded, the ground can become part of the static charge such is the nature of static and lightning, man what a concept.
