I'm interested in the mobile antenna "Antron A-1700. Is this antenna still in existence? And if so, where can it be purchased, and what is the going price? I hear these are a very broad-banded antenna, with a great radiation (Take off) pattern. Any help would be appreciated. "Constantly experimenting and constantly broke". Wolverine. |

Wolverine I loooooove these antennas. There is no possible way I can tell you all the good things about the A-1700. I'm not easily impressionable when it comes to antennas but this antenna does. I have them on all of my vehicles. Jeff, kc0gxz. |

We are considering stocking the A-1700. We would like your input. How many would be interested in purchasing the A-1700? What do you think would be a good price? |

I ran a search for them on the internet, only price I found was 22.95, nice looking antenna, first time I've seen them I guess. There was an antenna similiar to the A-1700 back in the 1970s that I used on my cars, it had the different colors to match your car, it blended in well, can't remember the name of it or who make it. |

Tech808 If you knew what the dealer cost is on these antennas, your suggestion of $18.99 is actually cheap. They generally retail for $22.95. If Copper went with your suggestion, their profit margin wouldn't be hardly worth the investment or bother when you take into consideration their initial buying price plus the shipping charges. Yes, shipping. Not even Copper is exempt from shipping charges. But on the other hand, it wouldn't surprise me if they did just that. Why not. Heck, they don't make much on anything else they sell either. Jeff.

Count me in! I'd definetely spend $18.99 or $22.95 on the Antron 1700. I'd do anything, so I could sell my Big Coil antenna, and use this as my primary antenna, and my Wilson 5000 mag as a back-up. Besides, I've never owned a 1/2 wave ant, but I Must own this one!. Maybe copper can do a "Product Review" updated article on the A-1700, in the future! Wolverine. |

Scrapiron, Back in the 70's it was Probably a "MAYCOM" Colored Antenna as LC (MAYCOM Owner) was the first to make the wire wound whips in COLORS, Drove up there to see LC the first of the year and he still has a lot of the COLORED WHIPS on hand. GTUess he was just about 20+ years ahead of other's with color's. He is trying to retire, It was a sight when myself and a friend drove up to see him, I would guess he still has well over a million dollars in Tram and Browning Parts on hand. He still has a Factory TRAM BOARD TESTER up there. Lon Tech808

Lon, I think your right, I remember the Maycom name. Those colored antennas did look good on the nice old cars of those days. I ran a white one on a big old white Lincoln Towncar. Man he could make a good nest egg to retire on if he would put those Browning parts on ebay, or he may be doing that already. scrapiron |

Let me do the math..... 1 wavelength= 36 feet. 1/4 wave antenna is good. 1/2 wave better. 5/8 wave is best. Tech 808 when you said the A-1700 is a high gain antenna, you did mean that it's a 1/2 wave, and not a 1/4 wave antenna, am I correct to assume this??. Wolverine. |

Dear Santa The Anttron 1700's bottom section is 2 feet of fiberglass and then 4 feet of stainless steel whip. Its small coil is at the top of this 2 foot fiberglass section. Now, on a personal note Santa, last year about a month before Christmas, I wrote you a letter telling you about the Hum-Vee I wanted for Christmas. I'm thinking you either ignored the letter or you never received it. I'll be sending you another one this year. Please watch for it. PS: I just had a new roof put on. Please be careful not to loosen any shingles or throw your empty beercans in the yard. Jeff, kc0gxz. |

Just wondering. Since the bottom portion of the A-1700 is 2' of fiberglass, will a 5" magnet hold this antenna on a mobile at speeds of 60 to 70 mph??. Or, will I have to use a 3- pad magnet for this antenna. Wolverine. |

Hi, I had one and used a 5" magnet and I had no problems up to 85 MPH. G T O |

I always use a 4" spring at the base of the magnet mount with any kind of fiberglass whips. It works very well with my 5" K40 magnet. I used this with anywhere from 2' to 5' whips. It also seemed to help with tunning for my applications. Defenitely helped keep things secure at high speeds! Copper carries a a few springs. Check them out! http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodM60-07594+ http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodV10-05622+ http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodV10-05620+ Hope this helps! stickshift

Okay! I've never used a spring before. What is the correct order: Mag mount, spring, quick-disconnect, then antenna?. Or...., is it: mag-mount, quick-disconnect, spring, then the antenna?? Thanks in advance. Wolverine. |

Wolverine, Honestly, I've never used a quick disconnect adapter before. I would say either way would work. If you are woried about someone stealing just your whip or wanting the ease of changing antennas, I would intall it on top of the spring. If you want to remove the spring and antenna, then install it to the base of the magnet. If I am concerned with theft, I remove the whole thing and put it in the trunk! I also do this at the car wash to get rid of the crud between the magnet and the car. Hope this helps stickshift |

I would definately want one in red. How do they hold up hitting low hanging tree branches? MY girlfriend Kitty [a.k.a Mario Andretti] has a way of doing in my antennas. Will they hold up to hitting tree limbs at 200+ mph?lol Harve-Unit199 |
