A discussion on the sycronon meter not being lighted, (Looks like a great buy) reminded me I have replaced the LED (Light Emmitting Diode) behind the meter in my MFJ-969 tuner twice already.

I have been using a regular ordinary LED (12V) from Radio Shack for the replacement. Do these things have a short life? I have a habit of not turning the radio and tuner off, but switching the power (another MFJ product, with NO lighted meter, but lets not go there!) off at the power supply. Am I surging and blowing?

What do you think??

Ca346.
If you're using a standard LED from Rad Shack with a 12v supply you should have at least a 470 ohm resistor in series. A 1K would be better and probably lenghten the life of the LED. However, it probably won't be quite as bright. You could use a superbright LED to solve that problem though.
