Ok,I am working on a boomer base amp 250 watt I think. Has 2 1446's in it. The problem is it has a dead key on high of only 40 watts and very little to no swing. Low and med is a little less dead key and only about a 10 watt swing. I have replaced both pills and still the same thing. I have hooked the amp up directly to another power supply and the same thing. So,not the power supply. Nothing looks burnt or bad. Tried more than one radio. What happened? |

I know this will sound stupid, but check to see if the coax is hooked up right ,make sure the antenna is hooked to the antenna side of amp, other than that it's to technical for me.Being in a hurry I've done this more than once on the same amp in the same day. |

Thunderbolt Check the output into a dummyload. Not the antenna. And just for the heck of it, put a SWR meter between the radio and the load. I'm curious to know what the SWR is when the amp is turned on. One of the possibilities of a low output could be that one of the 1446 pills has died and gone to 1446 pill heaven. What kind of radio and with how much power are you driving this amp with and does your radio itself have much swing? Inquiring minds want to know. Jeff, kc0gxz. |

LOL,xlaxx whats up! well this is something one of the guys brought to me so I am trying to figure this out. You know I dont have any use for these things other than to keep my door from swinging shut or my car from rolling backwards.Hehe. Anyway to answere the questions above I have dropped new pills in it and that wasnt it. Coax fittings are correct and SWR's are flat with the amp on. Dummy load has the same readings. I am somewhat of a tech and have been around a few radios and amps. As far as the radio, this came in this way but it really doesnt matter what radio I have it on it still has a 40 watt dead key and no swing. I have replaced the capacitor across the coil and it worked for about 3 seconds and pop the cap. So,back to staring at it again.I WILL figure it out eventually but help would make it faster. LOL. Thanks guys |
