I am shopping around for a 10 meter. When I read the specs, some radios are described as SSB & others are described as having USB/LSB. If a radio just has SSB, does it mean that it covers both USB & LSB? And all you have to do is turn the knob to get from Low to High? |

Rfman100 Yes, ssb signals have an upper sideband and a lower sideband. If the radio only has either LSB or USB, it would commonly be specified as such in the manual or description. The most familiar radio I've seen that only has one sibeand mode is the Radio Shack HTX-100. It has upper sideband and cw (morse code), no am/fm/lsb. This radio is similar to the Uniden HR-2510. The Radio Shack version was sold new about 15 years ago. They can still be found on ebay. Most popular 10 meter radios today can be had for little money and WILL give you all modes of communications: am/fm/lsb/usb/cw. The Magnum 257 is a GOOD radio for the price. The only function it doesn't have is cw. Copper carries the Magnum as well as several other 10 meter radios. They have the best prices around! Happy radio shopping! stickshift |

RFman on 10 meters 99% of users are on USB. Ok on looking for a 10 meter radio so im going to figure your a ham. Now if your a ham on 10 meters this will be the mode you need it is nice to have AM/FM all AM is between 29.0 - 29.2 and FM 29.5-29.69 Fm is nice its my mode of choice but unless you have a local group or the band is open it gets lonely. |

What is the smallest possible antenna can be used on FM mode for 10 meter? And what do you think about the Magnum Delta Force radio? |

Rfman100 There are several antenna choices. For mobile you can get something as small as a cell phone look-alike. However I wouldn't advise them. I have used many magnetic antennas on mobile applications on 11 meters. The Wilson 1000 is the best that I have used. It is one of the most broadbanded antennas I've used and can easily be tuned for 10 meters. As for base antennas, I either use dipoles or the trusty old A-99. Someone else will have to give you some feedback about the Magnum Delta Force. I've never used one. It might be bascially the same as the Magnum 257, in a different wrapper. stickshift |

The deltaforce radios are a nice starter set as for antennas on the car i run a 50 inch base load wip ( i have 2 one is 27 the other 29 mhz) here at the house i got my " top-one " working from ch 13 on cb to about 28.5 under 2/1 and use the mfj-945 match box to rubber it up to 29.6..... if you have room use a 2nd antenna for FM (VERTICAL) while on ssb run horz cut to 28.4 . SMALLEST antenna i would not go under 36 inches you be talking into a dunny load! |

Stickshift I know someone who has a Wilson5000 magnet mount on the roof of his building. I am not sure which radio his has. I wonder if that antenna can work all modes? However, you mention that the Wilson1000 was a good FM attenna. So do you need two attennas when working AM & FM along with an attenna swich? Or the Wilson1000 can handle both modes? Don't you have to set your CAL & SWR each time you swich attennas? And if you have two different antennas for the purpose of changing modes, should each antenns run it's own coax to the switch box? |

Rfman100, If you have a Wilson 1000 Set the SWR 1 time for as low as you can get it. Check SWR on Channel # 1, 20 and 40, Adjust for Lowest SWR Reading's If you switch Antennas, then yes you should check your SWR. The Wilson 1000 or 5000 will cover AM/FM/LSB/USB/CW all without re-setting the SWR after you have it set. Hope this help's. Lon Tech808 |

Rfman100 I hope you're not planning on using a Wilson 1000 or 5000 on the roof of your building like your friend does. Those antennas need a ground plane to work correctly. Unless he has it attached to a tin roof, he will have a screaming SWR and you can destroy the finals in your radio. The Magnum DeltaForce is a excellent choice for either base or mobile operations. It has the most features of any 10 meter radio on the market. And some of those features are NOT found on any other radio. Since you like FM, the DeltaForce will give you an easy 35-40 watts of varible power where the other big 10 meter radios wont. This "varible power" is available not just in FM but it works in all (AM-FM-SSB-CW) modes. This may not be of any importance to you but the DeltaForce is the direct decendent of the original 10 meter Ranger-3300 and 3500 radios that were offered to the general public. The Clear Channel Corporation is the company that started it all by being the first to make 10 meter mobile radios. You can't go wrong with a DeltaForce. Most people prefer the cheaper knock-offs such as Connex, Galaxy and a few others on the market. As far as base antennas go, either the A-99 or the I-max 2000 will cover both 10 and 11 meters with the I-max being the better choice. Copper offers these radios and antennas. You may want to check them out. Good luck and 73s. If you have any questions you can Email me at kc0gxz@aol.com Jeff, kc0gxz. |

Thats because they are HAM radios and NO ONE on 10 meters uses LSB same on 6 meters many radios didn't even have LSB The HTX-100 if i remember did not have LSB or AM on it now the HTX-10 HAS ALL MODES but CANNOT be converted for CB. |

Bruce, I know the rules call for 90% of users to be on usb, but in reality in my area, I find no users on usb, almost all use lsb. Rich |
