307,

Just wondering how the lightning strike affected your home. Hope you had minimal/no damage ...

Direct hit on the 80 foot tower , bounced off and hit the well then the air conditioner then the water conditioner. Melted all my phone lines and cable TV lines , took out my modem and a 900 Mhz phone , Also blew a wall plate off...Boo-Hoo

Sounds like someone's tower needs some grounding...

Multiple rods within their own length of each other cancel themselves out. Therefore, one solid rod of 8 foot or more length with copper strap soldered between it and the tower leg are recommended.

Did you get my email???

Do you need a crying towel? One must remember that bolt could have travled 15 miles to get to your tower it takes about 430,000,000 volts per mile to jump so when we get hit it can be flat amasing.

Gee Bruce, I hope you don't need a "crying towel" if something like that happens to you again. Kind of a sad remark if you ask me.

That lightning can be tough on equipment... Even a good ground will not stop it all if you get hit hard enough or by multiple bolts. I have seen towers take hits and the lightning travel through the ground for many feet until it finds a new target such as tree roots. Maybe the insurance will help some with the repairs.

bulldog i feel for him if you have been reading me you know i had the same thing happen and at the time was not beleved as to the amount if damage it can do 409 is correct i had 3 rods into the undergroung water and it still took out things
anyone who takes it lightly as far as there ant is asking to burn down the house. my new MFJ dc-daylight ant has one ground 30 foot deep into the sandy FLA soil and lots of spark gaps to back that up.
