I bought a lincoln a few months ago and the radio works well except on am everybody sounds muffled unless i turn the rit knob to the right or left. I tried a external speaker and this did not help. any suggestions? thanks. |

Try a alignment with the service manual.Could be a carrier frequency adjustment. cheers |

I thought a m was but an afterthought on this radio, that it was mainly an f m/ssb rig,adshare64 may be right and mike, you turned the alc,oh no.You can do trial and error with another radio,or take it to a certified tech with test equipment. |

Uh-oh Mike. Sounds like you need a tech! My golden screwdriver has gotten the better of some of my radios too. My 2510 is awsome on AM Bob. TX and RX. My freind has a Lincoln that is awsome on AM too. They are good radios, period. Not just for any particular mode. Well designed and manufactured in all respects. |

Forget I said anything,I don't own one,so really,what do I know,I guess when it comes to certain radios I'm just stupid,I'm sorry Znut,didn't mean to offend you.Bigbob |

I think the audio from the internal speaker is horrible, really mushy. I use a Euro-CB external speaker that helps quite a bit, but it still seems a little mushy. I don't see how the ALC control would affect the receive audio in any way. That controls SSB transmit power. My only other issue with the Lincoln is that my squelch on AM is kind of porous--when it is noisey on the band, it is difficult to set the squelch high enough to get rid of the hash, but still get a resonable local signal through. The noise kepps peeking through here and there. It seems to work well on FM, though. Capture effect, I suppose. |

Sorry Bigbob. I didn't mean anything like that. You sure didn't offend me, I like the discussion especially when I can respectfully disagree. Just reflecting my experience with these radios. Forgive me? |

instead of using the rit/clarifier, next time move the span cursor to the 100hz setting(leaving rit/clarifier straight up). then shift the freq with vfo. if this gives you clear am audio then the radio is off frequency. |

Mine doing good in the car. I got it back close last time I fooled with it. It matches the interior of the car just great. This might sound dumb, but I'm wanting to try a Galaxy mobile. Will I get rid of a 6 month old Lincoln? Stayed tuned..... mikefromms |

mike, go ahead and start beating yourself in the head now so you will not have to when you trade it later. |

mike its like this ..... The board on the galaxy is a YUGO . The board on the GRANT LT is a Chevet The board on a LINCON is a caddy all decked out .... I have had all of them at one time And the lincoln with the mods i made on mine was ALMOST as good as my alinco dx-70 and as stable as it on SSB. The galaxy and rangers are ok for the freebander croud but no good as a serious 12-10 meter radio .... i didn't like the way mine worked on fm at all .... the lincoln BROKE SQUELCH @ .20 UV the best my ranger did was .4UV. I have totaly run out of room and did sell my lincoln but i have 3 all band ham radios sitting here in my shack hummmmmmmm ... 8541 im shure would be happy to take that lincoln off your hands for the right price.... or maby swap a slightly used galaxy..... you might ask. Morning 8541 got my FT-100D back from repair and they moded it while they had it MEASURED by yeasu -127dbm for 12 db at 446.000 and -122 all other bands ...... its cooking for me on 6 fm this morning! that is common for that radio on the 70cm band for ssb. yaesu's specs call for .125uv(-125dbm). your radio is a tad better than the specs across the whole board. i bet it does rx like a champ. this may come as shock to you bruce, but the 29xx dx's and galaxies with the newer boards have ssb sensitivities in this range. infact, after reading this i went over to a 2950dx that i was already in anyway and did a ssb sinad test. i got 12db sinad at -127.9dbm/.091uv on 27.205. but you and i both know their is a big difference between the 2 in a real world installation and testing them on the bench. |

i left out that the specs for the 100d are worse case and acutally 10db sinad at .125uv/-125dbm. yours is 12db at -127dbm. in any event these are some sensitive rxers. |

interesting i had a 2950 dx back years ago and was disapointed with it, it was no better than my 2950 so i sold it my other dx was a 5054 ...now my 5054 was hot! it was very good all mods loved it ... but being the nice guy i try to be lent it to a local ham .... who made up his mind i was going to sell it to him .... he told me on the air the only way i would get it back was out of his cold dead hands! O Well i ve got too many radios anyway and he paid a fair price. We just crossed the 1000 mark for jail icom radios and after 5 years have scraped only a few.... management is as happy as a pig ( its a jail insert stupid comment here ) in mud...... i had to say that he he he |

I think I'll get the Lincoln completely tuned out to loud am and leave the ssb alone since it is great as it is. The things does have a lot of good features and does match the interior of my car perfectly. mikefromms |

I purchased a lincoln brand new from Copper about three months ago and havent talked AM on it till last night and unfortunately the modulation is muffeled when the RF power is set to max. The modulation clears up when set to min. Is this normal? SSB is unreal I couldnt be happier with that radio on sideband but occassionally I have to talk on AM. |

I bought a HR 2510 back in 1995 and had the big final mod done to it and i loved it to death on AM and SSB both!!! Wow what a talker it was!!!!! Had it set to key up 6 watts and swing to 40 or so. I then got a HR 2600 later on and WOW, it worked just as good as the 2510!!!!!!!! IM a ranger fan but i do like the 2510/2600 and the Lincoln.... |
