how can i loosen the slugs in the tuning coils
without damaging them ,and how could i replace
one that is broken

Skilletlicker,

Take your soldering iron tip and carefully warm/melt the wax in the coil and use a small plastic tip screwdriver or toothpick, or match stick to remove the wax.

If one of the lugs is broken you may have to re-move the coil houseing from the board and carefully remove the tuning lug/coil.
