For a layman to understand. I have a D&A Maverick 250 and it works very well on AM. 275 to 300 watts on my meter with what I consider good foward swing.

My question is why will it seems not to unkey on SSB. I have to switch to standby and back each time I unkey the radio. I am driving this amp a little hard as far as some discussuins are concerned at about 4 to 6 wattswhich is my lowest setting for my Galaxy 2517 base.

A tech (not in my town,as no one in my town will work on tube type equipment and I have to drive a hundred miles one way) has modified or changed a capasiter to help the AM side. Beats me.

I'm not savy on electronics so I have to depend on what others tell me.

The amp works really well for me on AM and I would like the use of on SSB.

Thenks for any answer.
Jim

First of all , the amplifier SHOULD have a delay of about 1 or 2 seconds after you unkey the microphone on SSB. If it is staying "KEYED" on SSB it is not the capacitor , if the capacitor was shorted , it would no key at all. It sounds to me like the capacitor and or resistor that drains it slowly is most likely the problem area. Sometimes as age sets in , Capacitors change value. In this case I would have to guess by the way you described it , the resistor value has changed. Replace them both.

Chattering usually comes from two things (possible). 1) There is a tube shorted 2) There is a diode shorted in the power supply. There could be other things as well. I have seen it once or twice where the contacts on the relay were "pitted" and you may try resurfacing them with a finger nail file.

dont waste your time with going from 1200 to 1600, u want to go over 2000 to notice a difference, in wattage there is jumps before u notice a difference. the first is 100w the next is 2000, and the next is like 500,000 somthing and so on to over a million watts plus! thats the way it is. i could run an antron with 1800 and another antron with 900 and u wouldnt notice a difference, maybe 1 or 2 s units. its just the way it is, sorry

You need to in theroy "double" your power to see a difference at the reciever end..ie: 100 watts you would have to go to 200. from 200 to 400 and from 400 to 800 ect.

I want to know if a Yaesu-FL-2100Z amp will work OK on 11 meters or will it have to be modified? If it has to be modified what are they? Thanks.
