I just bought a president lincoln. The radio does have the chipswitch done to it already. The question I have is when I hooked the radio up to my power supply I noticed the negitive wire get really warm to the touch and don't know why. I dont even have to turn on the radio. I was wondering if maybe I have a grounding problem, or maybe I need a heavy duty power cord instead. I've never noticed this with any of my other radios that I run off the power supply. Would adding a fuse to the negitive side make any difference? The cord doesnt get any hotter when I transmit. I just want to make sure there isn't something wrong that will wreck the radio. Thanks |

How much "current" does it draw with the power off? Something wrong here....

Check your power supply. I had one of the six 3055 transistors on the back go bad and I even had current grounding through my shield on my coax, even through the antenna mast. I was getting 20 something volts to ground from the negative side of the power supply. One of the after effects of running an amp with 2 2879's full blast on a 25 amp power supply.
The transistors (2n3055) are fairly inexpensive so a ordered a half dozen and started swapping them. After I did the 2nd one I checked it and my power supply was all better. |

That might be it. I also was running a X-200 on my tripp-lite it was swinging over 500watts and the power supply is only a 40amper with 50 on a surge. I did have the power to one of my radios go off a few times when I turned the x-200 up all the way. I took it off now and was just running my Galaxy 48T. I'll have to check this out thanks for your feedback |
