i have my friends k40 radio , no modulation on cb or pa no rx. changed mics still nothing this is model k401 can some please tell me what might be wrong or where to look . his mic woks fine on another radio so the mic is ok thanks gary |

The K40 radios have the same processor chip that used to be in their great speech processor mics. That IC is no longer available, so I hope that is not the problem. Check for voltage around the board and make sure the audio section is getting voltage. Next, make sure that there is audio input and that audio is coming out. This has to be done with a high impedance audio amp.
If the audio processor IC is getting audio and voltage, and audio is coming out of it, then you may be in luck. Check the potentiometers between the processor IC and the audio drivers. Those get dirty with age. See if there is audio on either side of the 3 pins and the middle pin. If not, rotate it with some isopropyl alcohol from a Q-tip applied to it. That should clean it up temporarily until you can replace it.
If that isn't it, find out where the audio stops. Most likely, you will be replacing a driver transistor. High RF voltage spikes can sometimes take out the audio driver transistor.
Either way, K40 has a FANTASTIC customer service policy, whether you are the original buyer or not doesn't matter. Call K40 and get an R.A. number from them. They either repair or replace the item for you and you pay only a flat fee. |

Thank you 671 for the info, I changed the audio chip ( kia7205cp ) and the radio is working fine again . by the way the chip is a nte1370 that i put in. again thank you ! |
