well i'm a new to cb radios well kinda new. i went to a new shop in ohio at the 36 on 75. i took my radio in to get it tuned.. he asked if i was go'n run a amp. i told him no.. well he still set my radio up at a 2 watt carrier and let it swing to from what his meter read was just about 15 watts. he said it would do more if we changed the finel to a galaxy finel but told me to run it as is for awhile and see if i like it or not. he also said something about he wasn't go'n cut the mod limiter. did he do this right or not... he just seemed kinda young to know what he was do'n but my radio seems to work great but i just want to make sure if it's go'n last

thanks.
cherokee

p.s. my radio is a cobra 29

Run it like you have it, you did ok. There is no need for a "Galaxy" final.

Sounds like he did just fine. The Cobra 29's are loud when tuned. And Tech671 is right, no need for a Galaxy final. Run it the way it is. I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

And just what is a "Galaxy" final? There is no such thing...He means put a better final in? This is also not as easy...Galaxy as well as ALL other CB Manufactures buy their components from the same places that are the core in component products such as Toko , Toshiba , Hikia , and many other places. For one person to say a radio has "Galaxy" components in it , well right of the bat..beware...You and anyone else can buy these components direct..Been doing it for over 20 years...

ok thanks guy's. what he had said about the finel was it was a 1669 or 1969 or something like that. but he said it was the same output finel that came in a galaxy. but if you say i don't need it then i'm go'n leave it the way it is.

I used to know a tech that had a CB shop near me at one time.. The guy was a great tech and he worked on radios and TVs and VCRs too.. But he had a downfall. He would NOT peak out (he would ONLY tune the receiver if they needed be) radios for 100+ modulation, clip limiters, or sell amps and export radios to CBers. He only sold legal radios and acessories like antennas, mikes, and odds and ends. .. He would get truckers in that wanted their radios clipped or peaked and he refused to do the work... Told them it wasnt legal and removal of the limiters was bad for the radio and caused splatter so the truckers would leave and go elsewere .. He went under about 7 or 10 years ago because he was too honest... Sad but true... :-(

peaking and clipping are not good on a radio, believe me an am radio that has a final designed to do 5 watts max , should not be peaked to do 6 or 7 watts or whatever they claim.it`ll ruin the performance and as far as limiters are concerned , just peak up the modulation as far as it`ll go as most radios will do 100percent or close to it.beleive me peaking a radio a watt or two isnt going to make any difference and the other persons recieving end. as far as im concerned ,people are getting gyped.i believe iun servicing etc, just honest servicing.a good clean sounding radio at 4 watts am doing 100percent mod will perform better than a radio thats cranked and overmodulated. i know this from experience.
