I notice most people talk about grounding when using a tower. I was planning on mounting a Maco V 5/8 on the roof of my house. I intend to run a good cable from the antenna to ground. Will this be adequate? Would a long run of cable like this emit RFI? Thanks! Chris |

If you are going to run a ground from the base of the antenna on the "roof" to a 10 or 20 foot ground rod on the "ground" use a solid wire , not stranded. I give you this information based on some tests I did a long time ago when doing some side work for Workman and found the SOLID wire works better than STRANDED. The theory may be different but the fact remains... |

Chriss I agree with 307 and must add that solid wire does a better job of disapating a lighting jolt than stranded wire. Too many words needed to explain. To answer RFI question. If the wire runs vertically and directly to the ground rod you should not experience a problem. If that run were horizontal for a long distance the answer changes. Hope that is a little help!! |

Chriss, if the ground wire must touch the roof or any part of some support on the roof itself, then insulate the ground wire at those points using some good stand-off insulators. If possible put several ground rods in or on the ground also, this also helps to reduce the resistance to ground below that in your coax. Marconi |

Stranded wire will not work as well as solid. For broadcast stations, we use copper strap. 4" wide minimum for most installations. Mulitple ground rods within the same proximity will cancel each other out. If you use multiple 8 foot ground rods, they must be at least 8 feet apart. |

Never worried with a ground and never had a problem getting out and never got struck by lightning. Guess I was one of the lucky ones! MikefromMs |
