I was wondering about the adjustment for modulation on this radio. I know from reading previous posts that the pot is vr14, but which way do I turn it to increase modulation? With the front panel of the radio closest to me, and the back panel (w/antenna connector) farthest from me, would I turn vr14 clockwise? I know the limiting circuits are intact because I made a point of asking the tech who did the peak and tune about it. Also, what would the best mic be for use with this radio in a noisy daycab? I have both a RK56, and an Astatic 636l, but I was considering an Astatic Road Devil. Any opinions? |

slim6596, can't help you on the modulation question but thought i'd give you my opinion on mics. i drive a daycab also with air-ride suspension. however you still have a tendancy of feeling the bumps. i've used an rk56 but it seemed heavier than the astatic 636l.it always wanted to jump off the air horn cord where i hung it. i made the rk56 my backup mic. the 636l was more comfortable to hold especially if you like to talk alot like me. the button for the rk56 is small and after awhile gets uncomfortable. the 636l is easier to use and the transmit button is larger. i've used my 636l on a uniden pc76xl for 8 yrs now and have just put it on my new galaxy99 i started using last week. easy switch because the galaxy has the same 4pin set up as the uniden. the astatic is a great choice and i've found them to be cheaper than the rk56. hope my opinions help !!!! |

Slim, with the front panel facing you, turn the pot clockwise all the way up then back it off a hair. I agree with Fordtruckluvr. The Asttic 636L is a good choice of mics. I run an old Astatic MMII D-104 on my HR2510. |

Okay guys, thanks for the input. I have both mics (Astatic 636 and RK56). It seems that I get a little more modulation with the 56 than the Astatic, but I also like the sound of the Astatic more, that's why I asked about the Astatic Road Devil. I may possibly be getting a new radio soon so I'll probably try these mics with the new toy (either a Delta Force or a Galaxy 959). Thanks again. |

Sorry, Dx431, I forgot to thank you for answering the original question. Now for the new question. Does a power mic increase your average modulation? I know it doesn't increase peak mod. but I was wondering about average modulation. I read that, in talking, we only hit peak a small percentage of the time. I'm looking for some way to *Cleanly* modulate closer to 100%. Thanks again Dx431 for answering the original post. Have a happy Easter everybody. |

I tryed to run a Road Devil with my Voyage and it picked up too much engine noise (Alternater) in my Kenworth.I listened to it on another radio and you could definetly hear the static. So i put the 636-L Astatic back on and it cleared back up. That was a bummer cause i was thinking i could use the gain on the mike cause the radio is missing that feature. Also limiter entact on my radio. Works great in the pickup though. 692 |
