well i bought the one above it with the preamp in it and it works good. i get about 70 watts with 8 am watts into it give or take. and it sounds good. it has a 1446 driver in it and i think its a lil small on the heatsink side cause she gets hot!! very quick but put a small fan on her and she just runs good! youll like it just put the fan on it! good luck |

What should you have for a dead key for best performance on this little amp? |

I have one of these, and I love it. Im putting in around 8 watts and getting around 70 out. Thats all I wanted. But mine does not get hot ?? I talked on it the other night for about an hour and it only got a little warm, I forgot to cut it off and left it on all night, got in truck next morning wasnt even hot..But these amps are great, whether they get a little warm or not. |

I have one in my rig use a Cobra 25 Clasic with it, radio dead keys 4+ watts swings up to 20 watts through amp amp does 50 watts dead key swings to 100+ with wissle. Does not get hot and has very little insurchion loss. Sounds good on the air! |

Just to let you know, that if you have a cobra 25 ,no matter what year that will swing 20 watts I will pay you $200. I thought I was going to laugh myself silly when I read that. The cobra only has one final in it and will only swing at best 8-10 watts and thats pushing it with a good power mic.Now for the amp.If you have a regular CB you can lower the dead key to around 3 watts and if you can get it to swing it will key around 100 and swing to 125.On a RCI or the like set the dead key to 3 watts and swing high.I can get mine to key 110 and swing 175 RMS. Does around 210 on SSB.MAn,that thing does get hot and that is a concern.Adding the fan helps but who wants a fan getting in the way of mounting.I wonder how long it will last without one.Hmmmmm |

Thunderbolt, This is not hard to do, maybe you are using a meter that reads RMS, I use a B&K 1040 precision CB service master that reads RMS and Peak reading and i was quoteing the PEP wattages. I have a Cobra 25 Clasic & a Cobra 25 ST and a Uniden PC68XL that will do 20+ pep watts with no problem. Hope you have a great day! |

I can't beleave what i read about the Cobra 25 not being capable of 20 watts ! I have better luck getting watts from the 25 and unden PC66 than i do the C-29 and the U-76, 25 watts Pep is easily acheivable with the change of a few resistors, and very little tuneing the 1969 final doesnt really help with wattage but will stand more heat and abuse, the stock final will handle it but will not handle a high standing wave!Later all ,,,73's BamBam_138 |

Something is wrong, the KL-203 shown in the online catalog is a KL-163, and it says nothing about a pre-amp. Also the RMItaly web site has no KL-203. Im guessing by what others have written here that the KL-203 has a pre-amp. Can someone clear this up ? |

In addition to my last post, what is the KL-200P all about ? It looks like a KL-160P to me. It does have a pre-amp. I guess Im looking for some clarification about these two amps... |
