Calling all tech's,I have a Siltronix LA-600 amp that worked for about an hour then all at once the tubes got very bright and it hummed loud and poped the fuse.I replaced the fuse and turned it back on all it will do now is humm and dim the lights in the room.I shut it off before it blows the fuse.I need some info or a schimatic for this amp.I'm not positive on the year model but i'm guessing mid '70s.I was driving it with a RCI 2980 at 4 watts output from the radio.Anybody with ANY info can either e-mail me or post it here, whatever is more convienant. Thanks,Stepchild |

Step- I have a LA-650. You can get info on schematics from Vintage Radios. They have the service manual for it too. My 650 was a 2 drive 4 8950's. I put 2057's in and get close to 800W. XLAXX |

Thanks xlaxx,I've got this thing in storage at the moment and I'm not real sure on the tubes but I got an extra set of tubes with it.I finally found someone that will work on it and he said it would make alot easier if we had some paper work on it.Thanks alot for the 411,Stepchild |

Typically when you get "buzz" when you turn it on and the lights go "dim" you have one or more diodes shorted in the HV power supply. You can get them at Radio Shack and make sure they are at least 1,000 Volt PIV rated. 4 amp is ok...There are "8" of them..replace them all and you will be OK UNLESS there is a shorted capacitor in the doubler circuit. 100uF/450VDC. |

307,I just ran across a site that said the LA-600 is a high drive amp.Do you know what kind of drive this thing takes, and what to expect for output?I was driving mine with 4W.The site I was at was,sonic.ucdavis.edu I had a Siltronix 1011-D that would do about 150W and average 100-120.I think this will go well with my 2980 or upgrade to 2995DX.Thanks,Stepchild |
