I have a 29 LTD Classic that I've had a couple of techs. work on.. my problems are #1) I can dial up to 130% modulation but my output wattage will not go above 12 watts on swing.. even with changing the finals. #2) the tech that installed my Connex board and talkbalk somehow has my mic wired that there is no connection at the shield pin inside the radio. #3) when the finals were changed to the same as in a Galaxy my deadkey dropped to 2-3 watts and would only swing 10.. put the factory final in and it deadkeys 4 to 4.5 and swings 12.

Actually it sounds like you best put the original finals in it and get a tune up. Most , not all , techs jump to the conclusion that putting "bigger" finals in will really make a difference. The fact is in most cases it will make it worse. Good way to make money though...

As for the Cobra 29 about all u can get is 14 watts out of it if tuned up right. I have seen 20 to 25 watts but it is done by a cap mod and that is a false power reading on the meter. The Galaxy can do about 28 by adding a zenier diode to R238 and doing a tuneup. I have never heard of bigger finals for the Galaxy. You can change out the power regulator on most of them to a 100watt and make the board run cooler in wich eliminates alot of probs. As for the mic prob. i always thought #1 was the sheild.

This is a true statement , without any "so called kits" the Cobra 29 will do at least 20 watts. The truth still holds as far as "bigger" finals though , it will not work as good UNLESS a great deal of time in re-matching the input - output stages is put in.
