What is a good amp for the Galaxy 93T mobil radio, my 250 Palomar will only take 15 watts pep, I use ssb only. an amp that will not interfear with my Nissan Pathfinder and does not cost a great amount.

Texas Star Sweet 16...Works like a champ! If you can't afford it get a Texas Star 667V...

WOW! 307 may have been a bit sleepy, but please don't use a 667 with 93t! The 500 or 1200 might be the ticket. |

The 667V will work just fine with the 93T set to 30 watts max swing. Truck driver just brought one in and it worked great. Even with the modulation turned up all the way , dead key on the 667V was 180 watts , swing to 500 watts..Audio was superb!

i must agree with tech671. the 667v needs less than 10wpep(around 6wpep) to reach full output power. after that it is overdriven, which means it heats up much faster, bleeds all over the rf spectrum, and makes a bad antenna more likely to blow the rf trans($$$). i'm not doubting that the audio was not superb in the radio/amp combo that 307 set up, but i wouldn't recommend putting 30wpep into a 667v for the reasons listed above. the 667v has an on-board 'driver' amp so the radio can idle along without any stress. and the 667v is one of the easiest amps to overdrive because of the this 'driver'. and when the 'driver' is overdriven by a radio it bleeds all over the rf spectrum and then the actual amp amplifies this bleedover plus adds its own amount of bleedover since it is also being overdriven by the 'driver' stage. not very pretty or useful.
the 500/1200/1600 all have no on-board 'driver' amp, so the 93t will work good with these. but you said that you were looking for something that would not interfere with the pathfinder and did not cost a lot of money. if your 250 is getting into the pathfinder now, then you definitely don't want to use a 667v. you would be better off with the 93t/1200 combo even though it produces more power than the 667v since it will be cleaner(because it will not be overdriven). but then you have the money issue. with what you have now, there isn't much you can get that is what you would consider cheap. so you can either turn the power in the radio down very low to match up with the 250 or you can build/buy an antennuator pad capable of taking the full power of the 93t while at the same time reducing the level that reaches the rf trans in you palomar 250 by 5-6times(about 7db). if you can afford it, the tx star 500 is your best buy and will give the power of the 667v with less bleedover.
and i am not trying to take sides here, or start anything. i have been busy and haven't had time to post as much as i have in the past. but when i saw your question, i felt i should share my concerns on the situation, and some options i thought of for your current setup. |

307, I didn't know you could get the 93 down that low on AM, 1w carrier and 30w peak? If so I could handle that into a 667. I realize it may not be channel friendly, but shouldn't damage the amp.
Maybe if my Copper family would send me some of the new equipment for evaluation I might be better equipped for helping customers! |

Yes it goes down that low with ease....Actually the one I set up was 4 watt dead key , swing to 20 watts. As for the comment "Maybe if my Copper family would send me some.." Pound on Chet!!!!
