Got a Turbo with the EPT295013Z board. Radio works fine, with the following exception. With "moderate" tx time, the heat sink gets so hot you can't touch it for long. Could this be improper bias? If so, can you please give me the procedure for checking/adjusting the bias. Don't know what else to do but let er smoke. Tnx de gunman |

It really needs a fan. Really. Name every "name-brand" 100 Watt ham radio with an INTERNAL power supply that DOESN'T have a fan? They aren't that foolish. Can't figure why these folks were. Breaking the laws of thermodynamics is just not allowed. If Icom, Yaesu, Kenwood, Alinco and all were sharp enough to leave off an expensive part like a fan, they ALL would. Guarantee. If it still gets too hot to touch under "moderate" use with a fan blowing directly on the heat sink fins near the center of the thing, THAT'S the time to think about bias. For now, I'd be thinking about how expensive is the smoke that will pour out of it when someone keys too long WITHOUT a fan. 73 |
