I use my PA quite often, so I want to add a mini push button on my mike to switch to PA. Can I use the existing wires somehow? Or is there a mike cable out there with more wires that I can use? Or the last resort am I going to have to run 2 new wires also looking for Mod to change channel 9 switch to channel 19. and any other mod. Thanks |

You would need a 10 wire mic cord and a push button (sub-mini) mounted on the mic itself. The four extra wires would attach to the PA switch inside the radio and the 2 pole switch. Quite a little task but you can do it. 307 |

Hey Magyver, Just take a look at all the wires attached to the rear of the "CB/PA" switch, that's what will have to be extended up to the mike. Maybe replacing the front panel switch with a DPDT relay inside the radio would be easier. If you tied the relay coil to +12 volts inside the radio, you could get away with "borrowing" just one wire up the mike cord to a switch that closes to ground inside the mike to turn on your "remote PA". The ground wire is already in there. Sounds simpler, anyway. 73 |

Thanks 307 and 2600 for the reply, I gotta say 2600, your idea does sound easier, less wire. Another question. My Uniden PC78XL mike is a 4 pin. My Uniden Washington Base has a 5 pin. If I find another 5 pin mike, plug and socket, could it be mounted and wired with the DPDT relay into the 78XL. If so can you explain how? I've wired in my own connex board into my base with trial and a lot of ERROR. So, I can solder but I'm definetly not an electronic genious. Heck, if you could draw me some pictures that would be GREAT!!!! HAHA!! A definite thanks in advance if you can help, Magyver, Jack of all Trades, Master of some |

Well, you could install a Roger Beep board that has a relay on it. This will effectively turn the 4-wire mike into a 3-wire mike. The receiver pin #4 will no longer be used, since the relay in the Roger Beep now takes care of that function. That would leave you pin 4 available on the socket (and mike) that you already have. Sounds a little less messy, anyway. 73 |

2600, YOU ARE THE MAN!!! FINAL RESULT's as I see it: Install Roger Beep board that has a relay. Use existing PA switch to operate Roger Beep. Connect PA switch wires to a DPDT relay inside the radio. Connect DPDT relay coil +(pos.), to +(pos.) 12 volts inside the radio. Connect DPDT relay coil -(neg.) to pin #4 on mike socket. Use receiver pin #4 as the extra ground wire up the mike cord. Connect it to a push button switch that closes to the original ground wire inside the mike to activate PA. Nicely Done, Thank you Very Much 2600 Magyver |

(Blush..) You're welcome. All in a day's mods, or something like that. For years I have wondered how many mobile CB users out of 100 actually USE the PA at all. The other 999 are all still paying for theirs. I'm glad somebody is getting his (and the other 999's) money's worth out of all that PA circuitry in there. Here it's banned by city ordinance to use a vehicle PA (without a permit), along with driving faster than 35, etc. etc. Just watch the pinouts on those tiny DIP relays. It may seem superstitious to put a diode across the relay coil, but it's never a bad idea. 73 |
