I need one. I specifically want one that will limit TVI or will be the cleanest output? I Dont need any more than 250 watts, or I shouldn't? Thanks, Steve |

A KLV350 or 400 with minimal drive should fit the bill nicely. |

Apocolypse400 have you thought about the Palomar Blue face skipper 250 base, , they are really nice, 3 power stages, AM,SSB,FM ,Pre amp, built in fan,can also be installed in your car,if need be. |

Karatebutcher, Another dealer is telling everyone that the Palomar 250 and 500 are somehow different than the Boomer 300 and Boomer 500, when in fact they are exactly the same units. There is only one factory that builds these and they will put any name you want on the front. Be careful of any dealer that tries to convince you that he somehow has something better than everyone else. We all buy from the same place. If we(Copper) ask for the Palomar name on the face plate on our next order this other dealer will be telling you the Boomer is now better. |

FORUMMASTER, THANK YOU FOR THAT INFORMATION, BUT IN MY CASE I ONLY PURCHASE FROM COPPER AND STATED SUCH BEFORE, AND WROTE TO YOU TO SEE IF COPPER SOLD THE PALOMAR 500, OR IF YOU COULD GET ONE, IN THE FUTURE I WILL EITHER BE GETTING A BOOMER 500, OR A KLV550 FROM Copper.THAT IS AFTER I RECEIVE THE THREE JUMPERS FROM YOU.AND THE WIFE ISN'T AROUND. Forummaster Note : Thanks for your support. After reading your email the other day I thought other people might be getting the wrong impression also, so that's why I posted the message. I hear you on the wife problem. I always tell my wife I just need one more item(radio, antenna, etc.) and I'll be finished. She just rolls her eyes. :-)

HAHAHAHAHA So true!!! Karatebutcher, I promise I won't try to be a Copper salesman for at least one week (I'll be out of town) hahaha. Yep next month I'm ordering the Dosy meter from Coppers, but of course I always check the nightly auction in case it comes up there first. Thanks Forum Master for that information, nice to see the honesty. No Wonder I buy from here exclusively. Hmmmm putting up the Dosy 4002PSW on the nightly auction anytime soon? hahaha Alsworld |

To cause the least amount of TVI shouldn't I go with the smallest Base Amp? KLV 250 or 350? Also, If I put the coax into metal conduit then ground that, shouldnt that help? VR9000 Stock A99 Thanks, Steve |

Not necessarily. The KLV350 or 400 with your radio drive set conservatively will be working light load as to the smaller amp with same drive will be in a higher duty cycle. The easier you drive the amp (within reason) the less liklihood of producing additional RFI/TVI. |

Ok Alsworld. you go out of town for one week, and when you come back we will all have new KLV550's. everyone, as for the meters going into the Auction I also requested that before I bought mine,[ no reply]. I will soon get either the klv 550 or the Boomer 500 but I will have to ask first which will be the best amp, not for the money but for the watts, and power, and longer life of the amp,but I will want them to put Palomar Boomer on my amp, have fun |

The cleanest amplifiers I know are ones that never have more than about half the rated drive power fed to them. You didn't say what size radio you intend to use. A ham amplifier meant for 100 to 150 watts drive used on a radio that swings no more than 40 watts will be cleaner than a smaller amplifier running near its ratings. Putting a TVI filter BETWEEN the radio and the amplifier will often help, in addition to the one between the amplifier and the antenna. If the rumored KLV-2000 (rumor says two 572B tubes) were available, you couldn't go too wrong there. Just keep reminding yourself how many years the tubes will last running at 1/3 or 1/2 their ratings. Contrary to popular rumor, underdriving a well-made amplifier will NOT hurt it. At all. 73 |

Agreed... using a well tuned radio with the KLV1000 (the one without the driver tune) should run nice and clean. I used to run a Amp Supply LK500zb (2-3/500z's) and drive with 100w and it was ultra clean. Sure would like to run across a cherry LK550.... |

Ok, I think i got it now. KLV 350 or 550 with my VR-9000's RF power turned all the way down. I think I will get the KLV350 then. And do the lightning arrestors work, within reason? I need one of those too! Thanks for all the help |

You will be very happy with the Klv-350--it is an excellent piece of radio equipment for the money. I run mine with a Galaxy 2517 on low rf power, and it spanks! |
