There may be other troubles, but I just recently had to take my 9 year-old Saturn Turbo apart because of the skinny little coax cable jumpers inside. There's one from the radio board to the amp, another from the amp to the SWR board, and one from there to the antenna socket. They used teflon-insulated coax and tiny plugs crimped onto the ends of these tiny coax jumpers. The crimps were poorly done, and the silver-plated braid would no longer make proper contact to the little plugs. I ended up using new teflon mini-coax, and soldering it into the circuit board holes after removing the tiny coax sockets. The SWR board is the hardest to get off. I had to remove the whole back panel from the chassis. Fortunately, I stopped transmitting when it started to act up. I didn't "pop" any expensive transistors, and everything worked with the new soldered-in coax jumpers.

Newer versions of this radio don't seem to have this problem, only the older ones. Mother Nature doesn't care WHY or where a bad coax connection happens. There may be damage to the linear in the back. You run the risk of final damage if this has happened inside your radio and kept up for too long. Fortunately the workmanship in the RCI-brand versions of this radio has MUCH improved over the original "Galaxy" brand version like yours (and mine).

In most cases (not all) like yours that I have worked on , the most common "part" that goes bad in the Turbo is the TX relay on the amplifier board. This will cause "low" RX as well as "low" power output. 2600 is also correct in my opinion , those cheap "gilbert" connectors are really trash and I usually solder them in place.

Funny you should ask. ALL Electronics has stock number RLY-419 listed for $1.25. Of course, it'll cost more than that to get it shipped from Van Nuys, CA, but at that price, get spares while they last. The coil voltage is 9 Volts DC. Kinda rare.

The closest thing to a book you'll find is the RCI 2950/2970 manual. The 2970 is the same radio as yours in a mobile package. Still leaves you with no detail on the power supply or front-panel wiring, but that seems to be all they offer. If you change this part, make sure you suck ALL the solder from the circuit board holes before pulling out a component lead. The amplifier board is double-sided, and the component holes are lined with metal sleeves. This makes removing the solder harder. If the solder is still stuck to it when you pull the part, and you accidentally pull this sleeve out of the hole, it's trouble. The sleeve serves as a jumper connection from the foil trace on top to the foil under the board. A tiny strand of wire can be put in to restore the 'jumper' function, but it's a pain.

Yeah, Meatball. The relay is under the tin shield cover that surrounds the amplifier board. You'll have to unplug the orange and black wires from the voltage regulator board, The four screws that secure the metal cover over the regulator transistors, the four screws that hold the heat sink to the cabinet rear, the four screws that hold the shield cover, the four screws that hold in the linear circuit board, and the four screws that hold down the 2SC2290 finals. Be sure you have a thin layer of heat sink compound on the bottom surfaces of the 2290s before you bolt them back in. It's okay to steal a little from the big glob they put between the board and the heat sink. Just don't remove the big glob. It's there to carry heat from the heat sink back to the bias diode. Cleaning it off will cause trouble. Just be sure to take a close look at those tiny coax plugs to see if they are coming apart. This thing is enough trouble to tear down you don't want to do it any more often than necessary. The 2547 should hold together better, fewer things in it to break.

if 307 or copper doesn't have any, try www.rfparts.com they will have them. and i take it that you are talking about the 2290 finals in the amp and not the 2312 final in radio(rf parts is a $25 minimum order, but the 2 2290's will cover that). make sure you get a matched pair.
