that jack is a "line level" output like the audio out on a tape deck or cd player(fixed volume).just as tech said it is for hooking up a tape recorder so you can record your TX and RX. pretty much a useless feature for most folks of course. only thing i could figure it was a sales catch or something.you've got the best "CB BASE" ever made;enjoy it and take care of her;she's a gem.i have owned many, and i mean many, different radios and none have had the RX like a 2000GTL!!! |

Hey JB, it's a MONO (not stereo) auxiliary (line-level) output. It's not meant to drive headphones in the first place. Most tape recorders have two kinds of input. The mike jack has a preamp, and requires the very low drive level of a low-impedance mike, a few hundredths of a volt. The LINE or AUX input jacks run at a level of one-half volt or so. Almost, but not quite enough for headphones. This is the jack you rig a patch cord from the radio to record off the air. The AUX jack on the Cobra is tapped in BEFORE the volume control, so you can set the volume knob as you like without disturbing your tape recording. 73 |
